Today, I post about home remedies for headache. Headache is a pain in any region of the head. It is a very common problem which mostly everyone would have experienced in their life.

There are many types of headache out of which Tension headache is very common. This might occur due to physical or emotional stress in the body. Other types of headache are Migraine and cluster headache.

Home Remedies For Headache


Cloves can help in reducing the tension headache.

Make a paste out of few powdered cloves and mix it with Rock salt. Apply the mixture in the forehead for pain relief.

Crush few cloves and put it in a clean kerchief. Keep this handy while travelling. If you get headache, just smell that crushed cloves. It helps in relieving headache.



Grind the fresh ginger to fine paste by mixing it with warm water. Apply this paste in the forehead.

Grind the fresh ginger and boil it in water. Filter it and drink it as a tea. This gives instant relief from headache and acts as one of the best home remedies for headache.

Inhale the vapors of the above mixture if you do not want to drink it. But drinking ginger water/dry ginger water is very good for your health.



Drink plenty of water every day. Dehydration could also cause headache.

If you get headache, first just try drinking a glass of cold water. This itself might relieve you from pain if it was caused due to dehydration.

Make it a practice to drink minimum 3 liters of water every day.


Lavender Oil

Gently massage your forehead and temples with few drops of Lavender oil directly or mix it with any carrier oil.

Add 3- 4 drops of lavender oil to 2 to 3 glasses of water and inhale it. This helps in reducing headache. LAVENDER OIL should not be consumed.


Peppermint Oil

Gently massage your forehead and temples with few drops of Peppermint oil directly or mix it with any carrier oil. It’s smell helps in relaxing the nerves causing headache.

Sprinkle few drops of peppermint oil in a tissue and inhale.



Put some fresh basil leaves in boiling water and keep it for few minutes. Now, sip it slowly, this will help in relief from headache.

Gently massage basil oil to your head. It is muscle relaxant which will help in reducing headache caused due to tension. Or just chew some basil leaves.


Eat Healthy Food/Exercise

These are prevention steps for reducing the frequency of headache. Change your diet and eat healthy food.

Eat your food at regular intervals. Caffeine, Alcohol, Chocolate, Cheese triggers headache. Avoid these from your diet if you get headache frequently. Go for a walk or do aerobics every day for at least 30 minutes.

Do Meditation/Yoga. Studies have proved that people suffering from migraine have reduced head ache frequency if they do meditation or yoga every day.
